Ordinance to Ban Retail Puppy Sales
A proposed ordinance would ban pet stores from selling dogs and cats sourced from commercial breeders. The fight now centers on whether the Fishbowl on Post Road would be grandfathered — most commenters demanded no grandfathering.
Flock camera removal delays
The vendor was supposed to disable the town's Flock license-plate cameras in August but they were still live until October 15 — caught only after a council member's inquiry. The town is also preparing to formally demand the state police remove their camera, and the vendor cites staffing issues for the delay.
Public Safety Complex and Flock Camera Compliance
The Finance Director was scheduled to give an overview of financing for the Public Safety Complex and school bond projects, and the Town Manager was to provide an update on the Public Safety Complex bond projects.
Fire department apparatus shortage
Three engines are out of service — a rotted frame, crash damage, and a transmission failure — forcing the department to borrow trucks from Jamestown. An emergency $880,043 demo pumper was approved on a seven-year rescue-fund lease.
Civil rights and immigration protections
Residents urged the council to endorse the RI Civil Rights Enforcement Act and adopt immigration-protection policies so people feel safe calling 911 and accessing services. No vote was taken on the endorsement item.
